Duct Tape Accessories: Gina Betz will be instructing teens on how to make fun and colorful accessories using the ever popular duct tape on Saturday, November 30, 2013 from 11:00-1:00 p.m. Workshop is limited to 10 participants. Lilly Humphrey of Cakes by Lilly in Hebron will be at the Douglas Library on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 to help 8 lucky participants decorate a Christmas themed cake. The cakes are baked from scratch, resulting in light, moist cakes everyone will enjoy. Ms. Humphrey began baking and designing wedding cakes in Hebron, CT in 1988. She received the Best of Show Award at the Connecticut Icing Artist cake competition, and was a First Place winner at the Connecticut Chefs’ Association. Several of her designs were featured in the 1998 film Amistad. Workshop is limited to 8 participants. Cakes and frosting supplies will be provided. This is a free program, so space is limited. Rainbow Loom is coming to the Douglas Library on Saturday, December 7, 2013 from 12:00-2:00p.m. Tina Ripolone-Parker will instruct eight lucky kids on making a Rudolph reindeer bracelet. Rainbow Loom is the invention of Cheong Choon Ng , with a graduate degree in mechanical engineering. He came up with the idea in 2010 and began selling the kit while employed as a crash-test engineer for Nissan. In the past year, Rainbow Loom’s popularity has soared, spurring hundreds of YouTube fan videos. Program is free. Participants must bring their own loom. So, You Want to be a Writer! Author Stacey Longo will be at the Library on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. Ms. Longo will discuss the path to becoming a writer, getting published, habits to get in to, how to find an agent, and writing in general. Ms. Longo is the author of Secret Things: Twelve Tales to Terrify, a new collection of unapologetic chillers.
